Easy Mother’s Day Craft — Bookmarks

Last year, in the middle of quarantine, I wanted to the girls to make something easy and special for their grandmas and godmothers for Mother’s Day. My main goal was to only use materials I had since I was barely going to the store, going to a craft store was out of the question since it was peak Covid times.

Most of the important ladies in my kid’s lives are avid readers so we decided to make bookmarks flowers using their little hands as the flower.

Materials Needed:

  • Felt or anything material that would work for their hands
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Green pipe cleaners
  • Glue or hot glue gun
  • Makers, glitter, anything to decorate the hands

First, trace their little hands on the felt using a sharper or dark marker so you can easily see the outline. If your child is old enough, let them cut the hand out themselves. It might be tricky to cut if you use the felt.

Set the hand aside.

Then wrap the green pipe cleaner around the popsicle gluing at the top and the bottom to secure it to make the stem of the flower.

Once the stem is complete, glue the popsicle to the back of the hand. Let it dry.

Once the glue is dry, let draw nails on the hand using black marker. Finally, let the kids decorate the hands any way they would like. I had originally let them use real nail polish, but it didn’t work out on the felt. It would likely work on different materials.

If you make these bookmarks, I would love to see them! Post on Instagram and tag us @markdowns_and_letdowns.
